As of 8 a.m. EDT on September 13, Hurricane Florence was located about 170 miles (275 km) east-southeast of Wilmington, North Carolina, and about 220 miles (335 km) east-southeast of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, at latitude 33.1°N, longitude 75.1°W, with maximum sustained winds of 110 mph (175 km/h) and a central pressure of 956 mb. Florence is moving northwest at 12 mph (20 km/h).

Hurricane Florence is currently a Category 2 storm and is forecast to remain at Category 2 intensity until landfall, now expected sometime during the morning of Friday, September 14, along the coastline of southeastern North Carolina or northeastern South Carolina. Florence should then begin to weaken and move slowly westward, bringing as much as 20 to 30 inches of  rainfall to inland areas, with some local areas forecast to receive up to 40 inches from South Carolina up to southwest Virginia. Storm surge heights are expected to be as high as 9 to 13 feet, and Florence’s slow motion will mean that several high tides could occur as it makes landfall, which will exacerbate the storm surge hazard threat.

A storm surge warning is in effect for the South Santee River in South Carolina to Duck, North Carolina, and Albemarle and Pamlico sounds, including the Neuse and Pamlico rivers. A storm surge watch is in effect for Edisto Beach in South Carolina to the South Santee River in South Carolina, and north of Duck, North Carolina, to the North Carolina/Virginia border. A hurricane warning is in effect for the South Santee River in South Carolina to Duck, North Carolina, and Albemarle and Pamlico sounds A hurricane watch is in effect for Edisto Beach, South Carolina, to the South Santee River in South Carolina. A tropical storm warning is in effect for north of Duck, North Carolina, to Cape Charles Light in Virginia, and the Chesapeake Bay south of New Point Comfort, Virginia.
