Hurricane Gustav made landfall on Haiti’s southern coast just after 1:00 pm EDT yesterday about 10 miles west of the town of Jacmel. Maximum sustained winds at landfall were 90 mph. As expected, Gustav began to weaken as it moved inland, and by 8:00 a.m. EDT, Wednesday, August 27, winds had dropped to 60 mph.
Typhoon Nuri weakened overnight and arrived at Hong Kong as a tropical storm with maximum sustained winds of near 90 km/h (55 mph).
Tropical Storm Fay took an eastward turn sooner than expected and made landfall at Cape Romano, Florida, this morning at around 5:00 a.m. EDT.
