At least three people were killed and 47 houses destroyed by a magnitude 7.1 earthquake early Tuesday in Uchturpan county in Aksu prefecture in western China, near the Kyrgyzstan border. The earthquake struck in a remote and sparsely populated area of China. Dozens more homes and buildings were damaged as well, as well as apparent damage to transportation and infrastructure in areas around the epicenter.
