In the aftermath of the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that occurred on August 17 near Izmit, Turkey, AIR’s post-disaster survey team has been conducting detailed block surveys during the course of daily reconnaissance missions to towns and cities affected by the event. In addition to AIR engineers and seismologists, the team includes engineers from the region with extensive knowledge of local construction types and building practices.
The AIR earthquake engineering team will continue to compile and analyze data, photographs, and video footage as they arrive. Preliminary results will be released at the AIR Users’ Conferences in London and Boston.
