Update 1 | Summary
Posting Date: October 17, 1999, 4:00:00 PM
The magnitude 7.0 earthquake that occurred at 5:46 EDT yesterday, October 16, 1999, may have ruptured parts of two faults in southern California, namely, the Pisgah Bullion Mountain - Mesquit Lake fault and the Calico-Hidalgo fault. Both are strike-slip faults.
Because the quake occurred in a remote part of the Mojave Desert, damage was not extensive. The AIR earthquake modeling team has run a number of simulations using currently available seismological information. AIR does not expect insured losses to be significant.
