An M6.8 earthquake with a focal depth of 22.4 km struck Mindanao Island, Philippines, 6 km south of the town of Magsaysay and 60 km south of Davao City (population 1.6 million) at 11:52 UTC (7:52 p.m. local time) on December 15, 2019. Five fatalities have been reported, and several buildings—some of which were likely weakened by a series of strong earthquakes in this area in October—have been reported damaged or collapsed.
