More than 175 homes were damaged, according to Peru’s civil defense agency, as was the façade of a 16th century cathedral in Piura—about 30 km south of Sullana. Tremors were also felt to the northeast of Sullana in southern Ecuador, the border of which is only about 70 km away. The northern Pacific coast of Peru is very seismically active due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire, and strong earthquakes are a frequent occurrence.
This is the final planned ALERT for this event.
