A magnitude 6.5 (M6.4 per the United States Geological Service ) earthquake struck offshore north of Java Island in Indonesia on Friday, one of a series of quakes to strike the region of late. The quake was centered west of Bawean Island, where minor damage was reported. A home and municipal building in Tubal district were reported damaged, and ground shaking could be easily felt in Blora, Madura, Gresik, and Surabaya. No tsunami was generated from the temblor.

Given the earthquake’s offshore location, away from major centers of population and exposure, as well as low insurance take up for earthquakes in the region, insured losses are expected to be minimal for this event.
