A pair of earthquakes – the first magnitude 7.4, the other 6.8, struck offshore just to the east of the Philippines on Friday, killing seven people. Philippine seismological agency Phivolcs Director Teresito Bacolcol described the twin earthquakes as a "doublet", two distinct earthquakes that occurred along a massive trench off the country's eastern seaboard. Damage was reported in Manay, one of the cities closest to the epicenter, along with Mati city and Davao city. Damage to infrastructure, including cracks in the structure of the Magsaysay Bridge in Butuan city, were reported as well.
