For the second time this week, severe thunderstorms featuring large hail as the primary loss driver have impacted central Texas. On April 15, most of the reports of larger hail came from counties surrounding the cities of Round Rock and Austin; 2.5-inch hail was reported in Burnet County, northwest of the Austin metro area; and up to 2-inch hail was reported in Williamson County, north of Round Rock. This follows a round of storms with similar impacts on Monday, April 12, when up to 3-inch hail fell in Llanos County and golf ball–sized hail fell in Taylor County.
The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center forecast for today indicates only a marginal probability of severe weather across this region, but there does remain a chance of isolated large hail this afternoon and evening across eastern Texas and Louisiana.
