Pre-Landfall 2 | Summary
Posting Date: August 30, 1999, 5:00:00 AM
As of 900 EDT, Monday, August 30, 1999, Hurricane Dennis is centered 85 miles south of Cape Lookout, NC, and moving in a northeasterly direction at 13 mph. Dennis is still a Category 2 hurricane with sustained wind speeds of 100 mph and a central barometric pressure of 965 mb.
The storm has continued on its expected track, paralleling the North Carolina coast, but with the eye remaining offshore. As we posted last evening, if Dennis continues on this course, industry losses should be minimal.
As always, however, there is still uncertainty as to the future track of this storm. AIR will continue to monitor Dennis and, if the storm makes an unexpected turn toward the US mainland, we will post additional information as necessary.
