Pre-Landfall 5 | Summary
Posting Date: September 3, 1999, 7:00:00 AM
As of 1100 EDT, Friday, September 3, 1999, Tropical Storm Dennis was centered about 180 miles south southeast of Cape Hatteras, NC. The system has meandered very slowly over the past several days, and is currently drifting southward, though a more westerly turn is projected for the next 24 hours.
Dennis was downgraded from hurricane to tropical storm late on Tuesday. Sustained winds are now 60 mph and central barometric pressure is 990 mb. Little change in intensity is forecast during the next 24 hours.
The AIR tropical cyclone modeling team will continue to monitor this system over the holiday weekend. If strengthening occurs and Dennis again poses a threat to the US mainland, AIR will issue new scenario and loss information as appropriate.
