Pre-Landfall 1 | Summary
Posting Date: October 19, 1999, 1:00:00 PM
As of 1700 EDT, Tuesday, October 19, 1999, Hurricane Jose is centered about 115 miles east of Dominica in the Lesser Antilles. The storm is moving in a west-northwesterly direction at 13 mph and further strengthening is forecast over the next 24 hours. Jose is currently a minimal Category 1 hurricane with wind speeds of 75 mph and a central barometric pressure of 992 mb. Hurricane warnings have been issued throughout the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean.
Projections indicate that the hurricane will pass over the Lesser Antilles sometime tomorrow. There is a high degree of uncertainty, however, with respect to the future track of this storm.
The AIR tropical cyclone modeling team has run close to 300 simulations. A range of scenarios based on these simulations is now posted and available for viewing. In addition, CATRADER clients can download event sets at this time.
The AIR tropical modeling team will continue monitoring the progress of the storm and will post additional information as warranted.
