Pre-Landfall 1 | Summary
Posting Date: November 15, 1999, 5:00:00 AM
As of 10:00 EST, Monday, November 15, 1999, Hurricane Lenny is located about 200 miles south of Kingston, Jamaica. The storm is moving in an east-southeasterly direction at 11 mph. Lenny is currently a moderate Category 2 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 100 mph and central pressure of 971 mb. A tropical storm warning has been issued for Jamaica.
Projections indicate that the hurricane will make a turn to the north over the course of the next day or two, and that it may affect Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands later this week. There is still, however, a high degree of uncertainty with respect to the future track of the storm.
The AIR tropical cyclone modeling team will continue to monitor the storm closely and will post more information as necessary.
