Post Landfall 1 | Summary
Posting Date: September 18, 2000, 4:00:00 AM
As of 0800 EDT, Monday, September 18, the remnants of Tropical Depression Gordon were centered about 55 miles west of Brunswick, Georgia. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 35 mph and the system is moving toward the north northeast at 12 mph.
This storm maintained its minimal Category 1 hurricane status throughout most of the day yesterday, but became increasingly disorganized as it approached land. By the time Gordon made landfall last night near Cedar Key, Florida, it had been downgraded to Tropical Storm status.
Gordon brought heavy rain and gusts of up to 60 mph to coastal Florida. Power was lost in areas around Cedar Key. Because the storm had weakened considerably, however, and because this stretch of the Florida coast is relatively lightly populated, AIR estimates minimal insured losses.
Using the most recent information available regarding the actual meteorological parameters and track of this storm, the AIR tropical cyclone modeling team has run new simulations. Most result in insured losses of well under $100 million.
CATRADER and CATMAP/2 clients may view scenarios and download the event set representing the entire range of simulated scenarios for Gordon. This will be the final posting on this event.
