Landfall | Summary
Posting Date: September 26, 2002, 6:30:00 AM
As of 8:00 a.m. EDT, on Thursday, September 26, Tropical Storm Isidore was located just south of New Orleans, Louisiana. Isidore is moving toward the north-northeast at about 13 mph (21 kph). The storm is expected to continue moving to the north. Tropical storm warnings remain in effect from east of High Island, Texas, to St. Marks, Florida.
Maximum sustained winds are currently near 65 mph (105 kph), with higher gusts, and minimum central pressure is estimated at 985 mb. Isidore is likely to weaken during the next 24 hours as the center continues to move inland. It is still a very large system, however, and tropical storm force winds currently extend outward up to 345 miles (555 km).
Isidore made landfall as a tropical storm on the Louisiana coast, just to the west of Grand Isle, in the early morning hours of September 26. Rainfall accumulations of 10 to 20 inches left parts of New Orleans under water. Widespread power outages were reported. A tornado was reported in Lafourche Parish, near the point of landfall.
This will be the final posting on Tropical Storm Isidore.
