By 5:00 p.m. EDT, Ivan has continued to weaken over central Alabama and is no longer a hurricane. Currently located about 25 miles south-southwest of Birmingham, Tropical Storm Ivan’s maximum sustained winds are now 60 mph with higher gusts. Ivan is moving to the north-northeast at near 14 mph and a gradual turn to the northeast is expected during the next 24 hours. The storm is also expected to slow down, which will bring the center of the storm into northwestern Georgia or Southeastern Tennessee early tomorrow. Ivan should weaken to tropical depression status in about 24 hours.
The AIR tropical cyclone modeling team as run new scenarios using the latest information available from the National Hurricane Center regarding Ivan’s meteorological parameters and actual storm track through Alabama. Five of these are posted on the Scenarios page of this website, where CATRADER® and CLASIC/2™ clients can view wind speed and loss maps. In addition, event sets representing the full range of simulated scenarios are now available for download.
