Pre-Landfall 3 | Summary
Posting Date: August 12, 2004, 9:00:00 AM
As of 11 a.m. EDT, Tropical Storm Bonnie is located about 20 miles (30km) southwest of Apalachicola, Florida, where it is expected to make landfall shortly. Bonnie has accelerated over the last 24 hours and is currently traveling at 28 mph (45kph). However, the storm has lost intensity and lacks a well-defined center. Maximum sustained winds are currently around 50 mph (80kph). Minimum central pressure is currently 1002 mb (29.59 in). Tropical storm force winds extend up to 70 miles (110 km) from the center. The storm is expected to weaken rapidly as it moves inland.
A tropical storm warning remains in effect from Destin east to the mouth of the Suwannee River. Rain accumulations of 4 to 6 inches are expected and the National Hurricane Center (NHC) has also indicated that isolated tornadoes are possible along the path and to the east of Bonnie.
The AIR tropical cyclone team has run simulations based on the latest meteorological information from the NHC. Based on the current intensity and predicted weakening of this storm, AIR estimates that insured losses from wind damage in Florida will be minimal.
