Posting Date: October 4, 2009, 1:00:00 PM
Meanwhile Typhoon Melor, as of the JTWC's 5:00 UTC advisory today, has maximum sustained winds of 259 kph (161 mph) and is moving west-northwest through the Pacific at 26 kph (16 mph). The storm is located about 1,700 kilometers (1,050 miles) southeast of Kadena, Japan. The JTWC forecast track shows Melor passing just south of Tokyo midweek, while the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) predicts a more westerly track, with Melor making landfall in central Honshu.
The AIR Tropical cyclone team will continue to monitor the progress of both Parma and Melor and will issue updates, as warranted.
