At 11:00 UTC on September 30, Typhoon Trami made landfall near Tanabe City in Wakayama Prefecture, as a strong Category 2-equivalent storm, with 1-minute maximum sustained winds of 175 km/h (109 mph) and a minimum central pressure of 955 mb. The storm propagated north-northwest through Honshu at hurricane strength intensity only to weaken to tropical storm strength as it propagated offshore.
