Pre-Landfall 1 | Summary
Posting Date: July 31, 2020, 6:00:00 AM
As of 8 a.m. EDT on July 31, Hurricane Isaias was located at 21.3°N, 73.9°W, with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph and a central pressure of 990 mb. Isaias is moving northwest at 17 mph and is expected to gradually turn north-northwest, then north this weekend. The storm’s intensity is also expected to strengthen this weekend while over the very warm waters near the Bahamas where there is also reasonably low vertical shear.
ALERT™ subscribers can download similar stochastic event (SSE) IDs for Isaias’ forecast interaction with Florida from the Downloads tab. Compatible with both Touchstone® and CATRADER®, the SSEs were selected based on event parameters (not industry losses) and should be used only for exposures in Florida. According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), there is a wide range of possibilities among reliable models in terms of the track Isaias will take as well as the storm’s intensity next week. One notable possibility is that Isaias will move close to the U.S. East Coast at hurricane strength.
