Hurricane Orlene made landfall near the Nayarit and Sinaloa border on the Pacific coast of Mexico at 7:45 am local time on Monday, October 3rd, with maximum 1-minute sustained winds of 85 mph and a minimum central pressure of 980 mb.
ALERT™ subscribers can download similar stochastic event (SSE) IDs for Hurricane Orlene from the Downloads tab of this posting on the ALERT website. Compatible with Touchstone® and Touchstone Re™, the SSEs were selected based on Orlene’s key meteorological parameters at landfall. They should only be used with exposures in Mexico.
Orlene approached the Mexican coast at category four before weakening prior to landfall. The ports in Manzanillo and Puerto Vallarta were closed ahead of Orlene’s arrival, and schools along the coast in the state of Jalisco, where Puerto Vallarta is located, were closed on Monday. Up to 10 inches of rain was forecast for areas in Orlene’s path. Early reports indicated downed trees and street flooding in coastal areas along Orlene’s track, in particular in the municipality of El Rosario.
No additional ALERTs are planned for Hurricane Orlene at this time.
