Nicole made landfall near Vero Beach, Florida around 3:00 am on Thursday morning as a category 1 hurricane, with maximum 1-minute sustained winds of 75 mph and a minimum central pressure of 981 mb. As of 7:00 AM EST, Nicole was approximately 30 miles southwest of Orlando, FL, with maximum 1-minute sustained winds of 60 mph and a minimum central pressure of 984 mb, per the National Hurricane Center. Nicole is just the fourth storm since 1850 to make landfall in the U.S. in the month of November, following unnamed storms in 1861 and 1935, and Kate in 1985.

Over 230,000 customers are currently without power in Florida, and over 1,200 flights have been cancelled as a result of the storm. A widespread 2-6 inches of rain is forecast today across Florida and parts of the southeast U.S., with isolated areas expected to receive 8 inches or more. Additional weakening is forecast while Nicole moves over land during the next day or two, and the storm is likely to become a tropical depression over Georgia tonight or early Friday.
