Pre-Landfall SSEs #1 | Summary
Posting Date: September 10, 2024, 10:00:00 AM
Tropical Storm Francine is forecast to reach hurricane strength and make landfall on Wednesday in Louisiana. As of 7:00 am CDT, Francine was located 395 miles south-southwest of Cameron, Louisiana, with maximum 1-minute sustained winds of 65 mph and a minimum central pressure of 990 mb. A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the Louisiana coast from Sabine Pass eastward to Grand Isle. Storm Surge Warnings have been issued for High Island, Texas to the Mouth of the Mississippi River in Louisiana and for Vermillion Bay. Francine is forecast to strengthen over the next 24 hours to hurricane strength, with the current National Hurricane Center forecast projecting Saffir-Simpson category 2 strength at landfall. The intensity forecast remains somewhat uncertain as wind shear will likely increase as Francine approaches the coastline, which could limit intensification somewhat.
ALERT™ subscribers can download similar stochastic event (SSE) IDs for Francine from the Downloads tab of this posting on the ALERT website. Compatible with Touchstone® and Touchstone Re™, the SSEs were selected based on the event’s projected key meteorological parameters at landfall, in particular storm track, minimum central pressure, estimated winds, forward speed, and landfall angle. They were selected primarily for impacts in Louisiana.
