Typhoon Usagi (known as Ofel in the Philippines) made landfall Thursday on the northern tip of Luzon, the fifth typhoon to impact the Philippines in the last three weeks. Usagi brought sustained winds in excess of 100 mph along with heavy rainfall to Luzon. Usagi is expected to impact the Batanes as well, with a close pass to southern Taiwan also currently in the forecast.
ALERT™ subscribers can download similar stochastic event (SSE) IDs for Typhoon Osagi’s impacts in the Philippines from the Downloads tab of this posting on the ALERT website. Compatible with Touchstone® and Touchstone Re™, the SSEs were selected based on the event’s track, minimum central pressure, estimated winds, forward speed, and landfall angle. They should only be used with exposures in the Philippines.
The Verisk ALERT team continues to monitor Typhoon Usagi and is also monitoring Tropical Storm Man-Yi. If Usagi impacts Taiwan as a Typhoon, or if Man-Yi likewise impacts the Philippines as a Typhoon, additional ALERT postings will be issued. Please contact your Verisk representative with any questions about these events.
