Similar Stochastic Events | Summary

A magnitude 6.3 earthquake has struck southern Turkey, near the border of Syria, following a series of destructive earthquakes earlier in the month.  The quake, though to be an aftershock of the recent larger quakes, struck the Defne district in the province of Hatay.  Three people were reported killed and hundreds more injured, including three men trapped in a collapsed building in the city of Antakya in Hatay.  Aftershocks from this series of earthquakes are expected to continue in the coming weeks and months.

Compatible with Touchstone® and Touchstone Re™, the SSEs were selected based on the quake’s key parameters such as location, magnitude, and focal depth.  The selections do not account for damage caused by the recent M7.8 and associated earthquakes.  The Event IDs provided are recommended for use with exposures in Turkey.

The Verisk ALERT and Earthquake modeling teams will continue to monitor the situation in Turkey, but no additional ALERT postings are planned at this time.
