Hurricane Kay made landfall Thursday afternoon near Bahia Asuncion, in the state of Baja California Sur on the west coast of Mexico as a category 1 hurricanes with peak 1-minute sustained winds of 75 mph. Kay has since weakened to a Tropical Storm as it has tracked roughly parallel to the Mexican Pacific coast. Flooding rains for both Baja California as well as parts of southern California and southwestern Arizona in the U.S. are the main impact from Kay as it continues to weaken and starts to move northwest away from the coast.
Given the sparsely populated area in which Kay made landfall, the storm is not expected to cause significant insured losses.
