Cyclone Kirrily made landfall near Townsville in Queensland, Australia on Thursday, with maximum estimated 1-minute sustained winds of 60 knots, per the Joint Typhoon Warning Center. The Australian Bureau of Meteorology rated Kirrily as a category 3 storm by their system, indicating estimated sustained winds of about 65 knots.

At Townsville airport, observed sustained winds peaked around 30 to 35 knots (35-40 mph; 56-64 kph) during the peak of the storm, with gusts just touching 50 knots (58 mph; 93 kph). Alva, east of Townsville, saw sustained winds reach as high as 45 knots (52 mph; 83 kph). Early reports indicated numerous trees down, power outages across the region, but there have not yet been reports of major damage. The storm is expected to weaken as it moves inland, though the potential for flash flooding due to heavy rainfall still persists for the coming days.
