Hurricane Nicholas made landfall at 05:30 UTC (12:30 a.m. CDT) on September 14 with 1-minute sustained wind speeds of 75 mph in the eastern part of the Matagorda Peninsula, about 10 miles west-southwest of Sargent Beach, Texas.
ALERT™ subscribers can now download similar stochastic event (SSE) IDs for Hurricane Nicholas from the Downloads tab of the ALERT website. Compatible with Touchstone® and Touchstone Re™ the SSEs were selected based on event parameters (not industry losses) and should be used only for exposures in Texas. The information provided herein is strictly confidential and is solely for the use of AIR clients; disclosure to others is prohibited unless noted in your AIR software license.
Nicholas was downgraded to a tropical storm a few hours after landfall and is expected to continue to weaken as it travels north-northeastward along the coast of Texas and be a tropical depression when it crosses into Louisiana overnight Wednesday. According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), the remnants of Nicholas could bring significant rainfall to Texas, Louisiana, southern Mississippi, and southern Alabama over the next few days.
AIR does not currently have plans for further ALERTs for Nicholas; however, we will continue to monitor the precipitation-induced flooding aspect of the storm and provide additional updates as warranted.
