Typhoon Yagi made landfall in Hainan, China on Friday afternoon local time, packing Saffir-Simpson category 4 equivalent winds. Yagi prompted more than 1,000,000 evacuations ahead of its arrival in Hainan and Guangdong provinces. More than 20 inches of rain is forecast in these provinces in addition to the high winds. Prior to its arrival in Hainan Friday, Yagi sent high winds into Hong Kong as it skirted to the south of that city, and also killed 16 due to flooding and other impacts in the Philippines as it crossed as a Tropical Storm earlier this week.
ALERT™ subscribers can download similar stochastic event (SSE) IDs for Typhoon Yagi from the Downloads tab of this posting on the ALERT website. Compatible with Touchstone® and Touchstone Re™, the SSEs were selected based on the event’s projected key meteorological parameters at landfall, in particular storm track, minimum central pressure, estimated winds, forward speed, and landfall angle. They were selected for exposures in China.
The Verisk ALERT Team will continue to monitor impacts from Typhoon Yagi as well as its approach to Vietnam over the next couple of days. We’ll provided additional similar stochastic events for Vietnam impacts early next week, if warranted.
