Hurricane Ian has intensified significantly over the past 24 hours, and as of 8:00am EDT, was located 55 miles west-southwest of Naples, Florida, with maximum 1-minute sustained winds of 155 mph and an estimated minimum central pressure of 937 mb.
ALERT™ subscribers can download similar stochastic event (SSE) IDs for Hurricane Ian from the Downloads tab of this posting on the ALERT website. Compatible with Touchstone® and Touchstone Re™, the SSEs were selected based on Ian’s key meteorological parameters and its current forecast. They should only be used with exposures in Florida. Hurricane warnings are currently in place along the Florida coastline from Chokoloskee to the Anclote River, including the city of Tampa. Per the National Hurricane Center, peak storm surge of 12 to 18 feet is predicted from Englewood to Bonita Beach, 8 to 12 feet south from Bonita Beach to Chokoloskee, 6 to 10 feet from Englewood north to Middle of Longboat Key, 5 to 8 feet from Chokoloskee south to East Cape Sable, 4 to 6 feet from Middle of Longboat Key north to Anclote River, and 3 to 5 feet north from there up to Suwanee River.
The forecast for Ian has sped up, with landfall now anticipated for Wednesday afternoon. The storm is expected to track northeast across the state of Florida, likely near or over Orlando, and potentially remerging over the Atlantic off the northeast coast of Florida before hooking back to the west for a potential second landfall as a Tropical Storm in Georgia or South Carolina.
