Pre-Landfall SSEs U.S. #1 | Summary
Posting Date: July 6, 2024, 10:00:00 AM
As of 7am CDT, Hurricane Beryl was located 495 miles southeast of Corpus Christi, Texas, with estimated maximum 1-minute sustained winds of 60 mph and a minimum central pressure of 999 mb. Beryl is moving west-northwest at 12 mph.
ALERT™ subscribers can download pre-U.S. landfall similar stochastic event (SSE) IDs for Hurricane Beryl from the Downloads tab of this posting on the ALERT website. Compatible with Touchstone® and Touchstone Re™, the SSEs were selected based on the event’s track, minimum central pressure, estimated winds, forward speed, and landfall angle. They were selected for impacts in Texas.
Interaction with the Yucatan peninsula on Friday significantly disrupted the structure of Beryl, and the storm’s center of circulation is partially open at this time. It is expected to take some time for the storm to reorganize, and minimal strengthening is expected in the next 12-24 hours. Assuming the storm does reorganize, though, and given very warm sea surface temperatures along its expected final approach to the Texas coastline, the rate of strengthening is expected to pick up in the final hours prior to landfall. Still, there remains significant uncertainty in Beryl’s eventual intensity as it reaches Texas. Beryl’s track should grow more northerly over the next 36-48 hours, and as of now landfall is expected somewhere north of Brownsville and south of Galveston.
A Hurricane Watch is in effect along the Texas coast from the mouth of the Rio Grande northward to San Luis Pass, as well as along the northeastern coast of mainland Mexico from Barra el Mezquital to the mouth of the Rio Grande. A Storm Surge Watch is in effect for the Texas coast from the mouth of the Rio Grande northward to High Island.
Assuming the official National Hurricane Center forecast continues to show a hurricane strength landfall in the U.S. on Monday, the Verisk ALERT team will issue similar stochastic events on Sunday and Monday, posting at around 10:00am EDT each day. In the meantime, please contact your Verisk representative with any additional questions.
