ALERT™ subscribers can download similar stochastic event (SSE) IDs for Hurricane Beryl’s impacts in Jamaica from the Downloads tab of this posting on the ALERT website. Compatible with Touchstone® and Touchstone Re™, the SSEs were selected based on the event’s track, minimum central pressure, estimated winds, forward speed, and landfall angle. They were selected primarily for impacts in Jamaica.
Confidence is high that Beryl will continue to move generally west-northwest through Friday, likely bringing the system across the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico early Friday morning. Depending on the system’s interaction with Jamaica and the strength of the wind shear it encounters, the strength of the storm is less certain, but it is very likely that Beryl will remain a hurricane upon landfall in Mexico. Beryl is then forecast to reemerge over ocean into the southwestern Gulf of Mexico, though significant uncertainty remains regarding its strength at this point and future track. A potential landfall in south Texas remains one of many possibilities.
The Verisk ALERT Team continues to closely monitor Hurricane Beryl. Assuming Beryl makes landfall as forecast in Mexico on Friday morning, we will issue an additional set of similar stochastic events for those impacts on Friday, July 5. We may issue an additional update, if warranted, on impacts in the Cayman Islands at that time.
Beyond that, if Beryl is forecast to make landfall in the U.S. at hurricane strength within 48 hours, we will provide similar stochastic events for the U.S. each day around 10:00am EDT through landfall, provided the forecast continues to indicate a U.S. hurricane landfall, likely starting Saturday, July 6th. We will provide further update on plans and timing with the Friday, July 5th posting.
In the meantime, please contact your Verisk representative with any addition questions about Hurricane Beryl.
