ALERT™ subscribers can download similar stochastic event (SSE) IDs for Hurricane Beryl’s impacts in the Windward Islands from the Downloads tab of this posting on the ALERT website. Compatible with Touchstone® and Touchstone Re™, the SSEs were selected based on the event’s track, minimum central pressure, estimated winds, forward speed, and landfall angle. They were selected primarily for Grenada and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and they may also be used with exposures in Dominica, Guadeloupe, Martinique, and Saint Lucia.
Beryl made landfall on Monday on the island of Carriacou, which is part of Grenada. Damage reports are still preliminary at this time as communications with Carriacou and nearby Petite Martinique are largely still out, but early reports indicate damage to roofs, buildings, and fishing boats. On mainland Grenada, several reports of damage have also been received with roofs being blown off, including the roof of the Central Police Station on The Carenage, according to Loop Caribbean News. The roof of the Mount Gay Hospital was also damaged.

Hurricane Beryl is expected to continue across the Caribbean Sea over the next few days. The forecast takes the storm over or near Jamaica on Wednesday, followed by an expected landfall in the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico on Friday. Beryl is expected to weaken steadily over that period, due to significant wind shear coming from the southwest; the timing of this will affect the eventual impacts in Jamaica and beyond.
Based on the current forecast, Verisk plans to provide similar stochastic events for Beryl’s interaction with Jamaica on the morning of Thursday, July 4th. We’ll provide an update if there are any changes to this plan. In the meantime, contact your Verisk representative with any additional questions about this event.
